Tech mogul John McAfee ‘faked death and is alive’ in Texas, ex-girlfriend claims

The ex-girlfriend of crypto proponent and tech mogul John McAfee has claimed that the computer programmer is still alive and living in Texas, over a year after he reportedly committed suicide in a Spanish jail.  

The ex-girlfriend, identified as Samantha Herrera, made the allegation in the upcoming Netflix (NASDAQ: NFLX) documentary titled “Running With the Devil: The Wild World of John McAfee,”  the New York Post reported on August 23. 

According to Herrera, McAfee, who died while awaiting U.S. extradition on tax evasion charges, faked his death while in Spain. 

“I don’t know if I should say, but two weeks ago, after his death, I got a call from Texas: ‘It’s me, John. I paid off people to pretend that I am dead, but I am not dead,’” Herrera claimed. 

Herrera further alleged that according to McAfee, only three people know he is still alive. Interestingly, the woman claimed the controversial businessman had asked her to run away with him. 

„The Wild World of John McAfee.” Director Charlie Russell said Samantha Herrera probably doesn’t know if her statement is valid and McAfee’s widow Janice said she wishes it were true, but if McAfee were alive he would not hide in Texas.
